The repercussions of the war in Yemen and the difficult economic conditions continue to take a heavy toll on Yemeni patients.

Yemen's Ministry of Public Health and Population held a press conference to shed light on the impact of the continued Saudi siege on thalassemia patients.

Those suffering from this disease need to get blood transfusions every three weeks and must stay on medication for life.

The Yemeni health ministry has recorded nearly 50,000 deaths due to the lack of only one of the drugs used to treat thalassemia.

The ones grappling with the disease seem to be losing hope as time goes by. With their health constantly deteriorating, they are desperately asking for help from international organizations, including the UN.

Saudi Arabia’s siege on Yemen and the ensuing shortages of food and medicine is putting more lives at risk every day. The healthcare system is feeling a massive strain and the International community has yet to take any definitive steps towards ending the crisis here.
