2022 FIFA World Cup: Argentina 2-0 Poland

Argentina have won Group C of FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Poland, but the European side still progress as runners-up on goal difference.

Lionel Messi had the chance to move Argentina ahead in the first half, only for Wojciech Szczesny to deny him from the spot.

But Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister finally broke the deadlock a minute after the restart, sweeping the ball home on a cut back. Then Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez added a superb second in the 67th minute to seal the 2-0 win.

The result means Argentina advance to the last 16 as the group winners and will now face Australia, the runners-up of Group D, on Saturday. Poland also squeeze through, barely on a better goal difference to Mexico.
