Muslims are observing the birth anniversary of the Prophet Mohammad. In Iran, people have taken part in public celebrations to mark the religious festivity. Press TV's Yusef Jalali reports:
Cities across the Muslim world are decorated to celebrate the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad, the last messenger sent by God to mankind.
In Iran, nationwide public celebrations are underway to observe the religious festivity.
Muslims believe that the Prophet carried messages of peace and justice to humanity.
Islam respects the previous monotheistic religions, namely Judaism and Christianity, but emerged to complete them.
Prophet Mohammad was born in 570 AD in modern-day Saudi Arabia, in a society gripped by violence and all forms of social discrimination. He was viewed as a savior and a beacon of hope for the downtrodden, who had been suffering from oppression under the wealthy minority.
Prophet Mohammad was born in the month of Rabiulawal, the third month of the Muslim lunar calendar. His exact birthday is disputed, with some countries observing it on the 12th of Rabiulawal and some others, including Iran, marking it on the 17th of the same month.
In most of the Muslim nations, the occasion is a public holiday.
After 14 centuries, Prophet Mohammad still inspires Muslims across generations, who always remember him as the prophet of mercy.
Muslims say, today, they celebrate his birth anniversary to carry the torch of his legacy.
