Yemen truce at "dead end"

A day before the expiration of a UN-mediated truce in Yemen, the Ansarullah movement says the ceasefire is at a dead end. In its statement, the Ansarullah movement blamed the impasse on the Saudi-led coalition's failure to live up to its commitments and its reluctance to address humanitarian issues as a top priority. It also slammed Saudi Arabia and its allies for their refusal to talk about measures that would alleviate the sufferings of the Yemeni people. The temporary ceasefire, which took effect in April and has twice been renewed, is set to expire on Sunday. The Saudi war on Yemen has so far left hundreds of thousands dead and created what the United Nations calls the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

Gazprom suspends gas to Italy

Russia’s Gazprom has suspended gas deliveries to Italy’s Eni energy giant citing a transport problem in Austria. Gazprom says the transportation of Russian gas has been suspended due to the refusal of the Austrian pipeline to confirm the allotted volumes. Most gas delivered from Russia flows to Italy’s pipelines via a channel going through Austria. The Italian energy company, Eni, has been importing all its Russian gas through this route. Before the Ukraine war, Russia supplied roughly forty percent of all of the EU’s gas demands. But Russian gas flows are now severely reduced. Moscow says western sanctions have hindered gas exports while European leaders accuse Russia of weaponizing its energy.

UK cost of living protests

People have rallied in all major cities across the UK to protest against rising living costs. In the capital London, people gathered in a number of places, including Queen’s Gardens and Hull City Center to call for action. They demanded higher pay for workers and taxes on the rich. The cost of living has been increasing across the UK since early 2021. The annual rate of inflation reached nearly 10 percent in August 2022, close to a 30-year high. The increase affected the affordability of goods and services for households.
