2022 Wrestling World Championship: Ghasempour gives Iran first gold medal at 92KG

Iran’s goldless streak in the 2022 Wrestling World Championship has been finally broken through Kamran Ghasempour, as the free-stylers have the chance to make it 3 on day 9 of the event in Belgrade, Serbia.

Ghasempour watched as Mohammad Nokhodi and Hassan Yazdani lost to American wrestlers in the freestyle finals on Friday. But the 92kg champion, provided some cheer for Team Melli, scoring a first-period takedown over USA’s Jden COX and held on for a 2-0 victory to defend his title.

Yunes Emami also picked up his second world bronze at the 74kg class, with a comprehensive 6-0 victory over his Indian opponent, to take Iran’s tally to 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.

Team Melli are poised to bag 2 more golds tonight, when Reza Atri and Rahman Amoo Zad will be up for the 61 and 65kg finals, whereas Mohammad Hossein Mohammadian has a shot at winning the 97kg bronze.
