On the 30th of August last year, the last of the US troops hastily left Kabul international airport, marking the end of a two-decade occupation of Afghanistan.

On its anniversary, the people of Afghanistan are celebrating this occasion. They say being independent and free from any occupation is a great blessing for the nation.

Most Afghan people believe the US invasion brought them nothing but more conflict, poverty, destruction and suffering. They say today it is Afghans who are in charge of their own country and that they should work to build their homeland.

Participants also called on the US to learn from its past mistakes and stop the ongoing ill policies towards Afghanistan and its people.
