In the outskirts of Srinagar, hundreds of people gathered to attend the annual Imam Hussain conference; held each year during the holy month of Muharram.

Shia, as well as Sunni scholars, came together to discuss the importance of unity in Islam, the relevance of the battle of Karbala, and lessons from Imam Hussain to dwell upon.

Scholars speaking on the occasion emphasized the role of the youth in spreading the teachings of Imam Hussain. They warned people against plots by Islam’s enemies.

Participants at the conference concluded that the battle of Karbala is a defining moment in the history of Islam that will continue to inspire people regardless of their religious belief.

According to the organizers of Youm-e-Hussain or the day of Hussain conference such events are a reminder for Muslims to follow the path of peace, justice, and equality in letter and spirit and remember that the key to greater success of Islam is through unity between the Shia and Sunni sects of Islam.
