Iranians mourn passing of Japanese mother of martyr

Born in Japan’s Ashiya city in 1938, Koniko Yamamura converted to Islam after her marriage to her Iranian husband and changed her name to Saba.

After settling in Iran Koniko got interested in Imam Khomeini’s ideas of fighting the oppressive Pahlavi regime and supporting the oppressed.

During Iraq’s imposed war on Iran, Mohammad, the third son of Saba, who decided to join the defensive forces to fight the invaders, got martyred at the age of 20.
