The Islamic Jihad Movement held a national conference for women in the Gaza Strip on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The conference titled Woman is the Icon of resistance highlighted the role of Palestinian women in fighting the Israeli occupation and their struggle for freedom and justice.

Palestinian women in the Gaza Strip paid a heavy toll during Israel’s war on coastal enclave last year. According to human rights groups the Israeli regime killed sixty women and 22 children in 2021.

Addressing the conference through satellite transmission; Islamic Jihad's secretary general Dr. Zeyad Nakhala praised the role of Palestinian women in their struggle against the Israeli regime for more than seven decades.

Conference attendees discussed ways of developing new strategies for women to confront the Israeli regime and its illegal practices especially against women. The annual event also tackled ways of bringing international attention to the plight of Palestinian women.

Palestinian women say that they will continue their struggle against the Israeli regime until the liberation of Al-Quds and all of Palestine.
