In the last 13 years 4 wars have come and gone in Gaza, leaving destruction in their wake. Thousands of Palestinians have been killed and thousands of homes raised to the ground. The besieged enclave is cut off from the rest of the world, an open air prison controlled by Israel and reliant on foreign aid. There are numerous organizations across the world that raise money to help them, and Muslim Hands is one of them, with events like the Gaza Winter Walk.

This event has been held for 14 years now, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for Gaza. And this year specifically the money will go to rebuilding demolished homes and supporting impoverished families.

This year, a hundred thousand pounds was raised. We asked one of the organizers, how the money gets to those who need it, despite all the obstacles imposed by Israel.

It’s a special event for children too, who learn about their Islamic values and take part in competitions. Organizers and parents alike, say taking part fortifies their resolve to stand by their Palestinian Muslim brothers and sisters.

Over 80 percent of Gaza’s population is trapped in a cycle of poverty, unemployment, and food insecurity, reliant on aid. The very basics, like clean water and electricity, are luxuries, which is why events like this are so important.
