Australian Open: Rafael Nadal beats Daniil Medvedev 3-2

Rafael Nadal has staged an incredible comeback against Daniil Medvedev in a 5 set thriller to claim a record 21st  tennis Grand Slam title of Australian Open.

The match appeared to be going the way of Medvedev as he broke the Spaniard twice and took the opener 6-2. The second set was close and fraught with momentum shifts.

Nadal was 5-3 up and had the chance to clinch the set, but the Russian saved the set point and went on to take it in the tiebreak. Despite trailing an opponent 10 years his junior Nadal gained a foothold in the match by overpowering Medvedev 6-4 in the Third.

The Spaniard carried the momentum into the fourth to inflict another 6-4 defeat on the world number two and force a decider. Nadal then managed to hold his nerve in the 5th to complete an iconic comeback with a 7-5 win and move past Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic by clinching his 21st grand slam title.
