US Syria operation

Syrian media says at least three civilians have been killed in a major US airborne operation near the eastern city of Dayr al-Zawr.

Nablus strike

Palestinians have held a funeral for a man killed by Israeli live fire in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus. Jamil al-Kayyal succumbed to injuries he sustained during a dawn raid by the Israeli troops on the city. Palestinians in Nablus have announced a strike following the incident. The strike has spread all across the city. The Islamic Jihad Movement has expressed condolences to the family of the victim. Israeli forces occasionally target Palestinians with live fire while raiding their cities and towns in the occupied territories.

Russia-NATO tensions

Russia has warned of confrontation with the US and NATO over the western alliance’s expansion toward its borders. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Ryabkov, says Washington and NATO should offer security guarantees to ward off the conflict. Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow wants legally-binding guarantees that the western alliance would not further expand east. Putin also said NATO should avoid deployment of weapons systems in close vicinity to Russian territory. That’s amid tensions over Russia’s troop buildup near borders with Ukraine. The Group of Seven major economies has accused Russia of planning an invasion and has warned Moscow of consequences. Russia has rejected any such plan. It says the move is defensive as NATO pushed to get Ukraine into the alliance.
