Incessant Saudi airstrikes in Yemen

Saudi Arabia has carried out fresh airstrikes on the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, as part of the kingdom’s intensified onslaught against its southern neighbor. There have been no reports on the possible casualties or material damage. The attacks are the latest in a bout of Saudi airstrikes on Yemen. Saudi war planes have conducted over 130 strikes on Sana’a and other major Yemeni cities over the past five days. In response to the Saudi escalation, Yemeni armed forces carried out a retaliatory operation deep inside the kingdom hours ago.

US 'political manipulation'

The US has announced a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, citing alleged human rights violations. Jen Psaki said the boycott sends a clear message that the alleged human rights abuses in China mean there cannot be business as usual. She, however, noted that American athletes would still compete in the Games. The Chinese Embassy in Washington shrugged off the move as a pretentious act and political manipulation. It said the boycott will have no impacts whatsoever on the successful holding of the Olympics. The mission noted that such a diplomatic boycott is impossible since no invitations have been extended to US politicians. China and the US are at loggerheads over a host of issues, including trade, technology, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Covid-19 and the South China Sea.
