In an unusual game between arch-rivals in the English Premier League, Manchester United have edged past Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford, as Cristiano Ronaldo set another record in his career.
Arsenal got on the score-sheet inside 13 minutes as Emile Smith Rowe netted a bizarre goal, while David de Gea was lying on the ground. The VAR check concluded that De Gea had fallen after being trodden on,, by his own team-mate, and the goal was approved.
But the hosts leveled the score before half-time, when Bruno Fernandes put the ball home with a clinical finish.
Manchester United took a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute when Cristiano Ronaldo was in the right place at the right time to sweep from a cross by Marcus Rashford.
But the Gunners were not giving up as Norwegian Martin Odegaard restored parity with a sublime finish only 3 minutes later.
Then, with 20 minutes remaining, the Portuguese super star scored the 801st goal of his career from a VAR penalty in front of incoming manager Ralf Rangnick. That is while, Michael Carrick, the caretaker manager, announced that he was ending his 15-year association with Manchester United after the match.
