The Iranian men's national beach volleyball B team have finished as the vice champion of the 2021 Asian Beach Volleyball Championships in Thailand.
On Saturday, the Iranian duo of Bahman Salemi and Abolhassan Khakizadeh suffered a 0-2 defeat from their Australian counterparts Chris McHugh and Paul Burnett at the end of the title match played in the southern Thai resort island of Phuket.
Even though the Iranians got off to a decent start and mounted a string of attacks, the Aussies could take the first set 21-16.
Salemi and Khakizadeh did not capitulate and sought to reverse the course.
They, however, could not overcome the opposite side, and lost the second and final set 13-21.
Iran beat Kazakhstan in straight sets (21-12, 21-14) on Friday to secure a place at the final showpiece.
Meanwhile, Qatari beach volleyball players Cherif Younousse Samba and Ahmed Tijan Janko settled for a third-place finish after they notched up a 2-0 (21-15 and 21-15) victory over Sergey Bogatu and Dmitriy Yakovlev from Kazakhstan.
The 2021 Asian Beach Volleyball Championships was originally planned to be held in China in July 2020, but the tournament was postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
