Chinese mainland reports 68 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases

The Chinese mainland on Thursday reported 68 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Friday.

Regarding regional distribution, 28 were reported in Heilongjiang, 10 in Hebei, eight in Liaoning, five each in Henan and Gansu, four in the Ningxia, two each in Inner Mongolia, Jiangxi and Sichuan, and one each in Guizhou and Yunnan, the commission said.

Among the new locally transmitted cases, four, all in Henan, were re-categorized as active cases from asymptomatic cases, according to the commission.

The commission also reported 10 new imported cases on the day, of which three each were reported in Shanghai and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and one each in Tianjin Municipality, Liaoning, Guangdong and Yunnan.

One of the new imported cases, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was re-categorized as an active case from an asymptomatic case, said the commission.

On the day, no new deaths related to the COVID-19 epidemic were reported on the Chinese mainland, while one suspected case, from overseas, were reported in Shanghai.

A total of 29 cases were discharged from hospital and 1,990 close contacts were released from medical observation on the day.

The number of severe cases increased by one compared to that of the previous day.

A total of 9,697 imported cases had been reported on the mainland by the end of Thursday. Of the total, 9,324 had been discharged from hospital following recovery, and 373 remained hospitalized, with two in severe condition.

No deaths had been reported among the imported cases, and there are four remaining suspected COVID-19 cases from overseas.

As of Thursday, the mainland had reported a total of 97,605 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Of the total, 91,840 had been discharged from hospital following recovery, and 4,636 had died as a result of the virus.

Currently, 1,129 confirmed cases remain in hospital for treatment, with 37 in severe conditions.

There are four suspected COVID-19 cases remaining on the mainland, and 45,386 of the 1,272,333 tracked close contacts were still under medical observation by the end of Thursday.

On Thursday, 42 new asymptomatic cases, with 20 from overseas, were reported.

Of the 22 new asymptomatic cases reported in mainland on Thursday, nine were reported in Henan, eight in Liaoning, three in Jiangxi, and two in Chongqing Municipality.

Five asymptomatic cases, with one from overseas, were re-categorized as active cases, and 17 asymptomatic cases, including 14 from overseas, were released from medical observation on Thursday.

The commission also said 426 asymptomatic cases, including 348 imported ones, were still under medical observation by the end of Thursday.

By the end of Thursday, 12,359 confirmed cases, including 213 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), together with 77 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR and 16,430 cases including 847 deaths in Taiwan.

A total of 12,035 COVID-19 patients in Hong Kong, 75 in Macao, and 13,742 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospital after recovery.
