However, in the heavy-weight, Amin Mirza-Zadeh ended Team Melli’s losing run in the finals with a 2-1 win over Davit Ovasapyan of Armenia, to bring Iran’s first gold medal of the tournament. Furthermore, in the 63 and 87kg classes, Iran earned two bronze medals respectively through Alireza Nejati and Nasser Alizadeh, as Farshad Alizadeh’s men won a medal in each of the first 5-weight categories.

Meanwhile in the second 5-weight classes, Iran secured two more finals on Tuesday. Mehdi Mohsen-Nejad won his 60kg semifinal tie against an opponent from Georgia 5-3, before Mohammad Javad Rezaei outmuscled another Georgian 5-1 to reach the gold medal match in the 67kg class. Meanwhile, Mohammad Naghousi lost his 82kg semifinal bout to a third Georgian grappler and he’ll be fighting for the Bronze medal match on Wednesday. Moreover, Amir Abdi who had lost in the second round of the 72kg division, could still grab another podium place for Iran, if he qualifies from his repechage round.
