Thousands of British Muslims celebrate Prophet's birthday

Thousands of Muslims gathered in the English town of Bolton on Sunday to celebrate the a joyous occasion, the birthday of Islam's holy Prophet Mohammad.

The birthday of the Prophet Mohammad, Mawlid, is commemorated in Rabi' al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.

In recent months, the beloved prophet has been the target of insult in Europe. But these Muslims hope to break the many misconceptions.

These Muslims are very excited this year as last year coronavirus restrictions stopped all Muslims from gather at all for any religious occasion. Now they can return to this event and publicly declare their love for this beloved historical figure.

Apart from bring Muslims together it also provides a great opportunity to spread his legacy to non-Muslims too.

In addition to prayers, Quran readings and the march, sweets and free ice cream was handed out. All in honour of the Prophet's generous nature.
