Violence in Afghanistan

Deadly terrorist attacks by the Daesh Takirir militants have taken a heavy toll on people of Afghanistan in recent weeks and days.

Last Friday, more than 100 worshippers were killed or wounded in an attack on a Shia mosque in the Northern city of Kunduz. And today, October 14th, multiple bomb explosions hit another Shia mosque, this time in the city of Kandahar, where dozens of worshippers lost their lives.

The ruling Taliban have so far failed to stop such attacks after they rose to power few months ago. At the same time, there are warnings, including one by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, that battle-hardened militants and terrorists with Daesh links, are "actively" entering Afghanistan from Iraq and Syria. In tonight’s Spotlight, we will discuss the situation in Afghanistan and the growing attacks by Daesh in the war-ravaged country and their implications for Afghanistan and for the region
