Iran military drills

Iran's air defense forces have staged a large-scale military exercise in central Iran. The maneuver is held every year to boost Iran's preparedness in the face of potential threats.

Iraq elections

Iraq’s prominent cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has vowed to fight corruption as initial results from last week’s parliamentary elections put his political bloc in the lead. Sadr said his movement will work to protect and secure Iraq. Initial results show that the Sadrist bloc has won 73 seats and is leading in several provinces including Baghdad. The Progress bloc with 38 seats is in the second place. Former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s party comes third with 37 seats. Leader of the Fatah alliance, Hadi al-Amiri has called the results fabricated, and said will reject them, whatever the cost. That’s according to a local TV channel. Iraqis headed to the polls Sunday to choose members of their 329-seat parliament. More than 25 million were eligible to cast ballots. The electoral commission said the turnout was 41 percent.

UK police misconduct

New figures reveal that at least 750 allegations of sexual misconduct have been made against police officers across Britain in five years. The data has been obtained by local media from 31 police forces. It has shed light on the number of sexual assault complaints against serving officers between 2016 and 2020. The figures show that most complaints have been against male officers. A women’s rights group says few cops have faced meaningful consequences for their abuses. Only 34 cases have led to a dismissal. The “End Violence Against Women Coalition” has urged action against what it called widespread institutional failings in British police.
