Is Britain’s fuel crisis over?

This is a crisis that was said to have blown over. It was supposed to be a gradual return to full fuel tanks and drivers reassured that the very worst was behind them. Those in England’s south-east continue to be hit especially hard.

And despite army personnel now helping with the distribution of fuel to forecourts most in need, Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng denied the UK was at crisis point.

For consumers, the minister’s words may well ring hollow. It should have been business as usual at these pumps instead, some drivers are still wondering if the rhetoric coming from Downing Street match their reality on the ground and worse is this the shape of things to come?

The government had to admit that one of the solutions touted to alleviate the crisis relaxing the visa rules for experienced EU HGV drivers has underperformed. The worry is this fuel issue becomes a crisis of confidence in Britain’s ability to deliver the basics for its citizens which might leave more a more damaging legacy than the government cares to admit.
