Nigerian forces open fire on mourners commemorating Arba’een

Videos and images posted on social media showed bodies lying on the ground in Abuja after police forces open fire on mourners commemorating Arba’een. But police have denied killing anyone in the procession. The march was organized by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria. The group was banned by the government in 2019 after protests erupted over the detention of its leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky. The movement has repeatedly been targeted by Nigerian authorities since the 2015 army crackdown that left hundreds of its members dead.
