Gangs of America

Gangs have been present in the United States for hundreds of years. Since then gangs have evolved and their criminal activities have expanded.

A great number of violence in the United States happens because of gang presence. Youth from a very young age join gangs. Americans experienced much more violence in 2020 in their communities. Gun violence and gun crime has increased significantly with over 19,000 people killed in shootings and firearm-related incidents. This number of deaths is the highest in more than 20 years. Mass shootings which are classified as an incident in which four or more people are shot and injured or killed has risen drastically to over 600, the most in the past 5 years and nearly 50% increase in 2019’s total. Many of the violence involving guns is related to gangs, gang wars and retaliations.
