US tech corporation Facebook has reinstated the account of the mother of a US Marine killed in the Kabul airport bombing after she was banned from the social media over her criticism of President Joe Biden.

The suspension of the account set off outcry by US conservative pundits and lawmakers. Facebook claimed it had "incorrectly" deleted both the Facebook and Instagram accounts of Shana Chappell, the mother of Lance Corporal Kareem Nikoui, after her post relating how she told Biden "my sons blood was on your hands" when he met families of the slain US soldiers.

Scores of Afghan civilians and 13 members of the US military were killed and many more injured in last week's Kabul airport suicide bombing attack claimed by the Daesh terrorist group.

The 13 service members were the last Americans to die in a 20-year occupation that has claimed the lives of nearly 2,500 US troops and wounded 20,000 others.

The US deaths were the first in action in Afghanistan in 18 months, a fact likely to be cited by critics who accuse Biden of recklessly abandoning without a plan.

The American casualties in Thursday's attack were believed to be the most US troops killed in Afghanistan in a single incident since 30 personnel died when a helicopter was shot down in 2011.

“It seems Instagram took it upon themselves to delete my account because I am assuming it was because I gained so many followers over my son's death due to Biden’s negligence, ignorance and him being a traitor,” Chappell posted on Facebook.

"We express our deepest condolences to Ms. Chappell and her family," a Facebook spokesperson said. "Her tribute to her heroic son does not violate any of our policies. While the post was not removed, her account was incorrectly deleted and we have since restored it."

Biden traveled to Dover Air Force Base in his home state of Delaware on Sunday to pay respect to the slain American soldiers arriving back from Afghanistan. However, the reception from parents was hostile.

Chappell wrote in a post to Facebook that “the only reason I was talking to you was out of respect for my son...You are a weak human being and a traitor.”

Biden also drew anger from grieving relatives for referring to his son Beau, who died of cancer years after a tour in Iraq as a US Army lawyer, in a bid to equate himself with the families of the 13 victims of last Thursday's Kabul suicide bombing.

Chappell was just one of relatives of the slain soldiers who confronted the US president following the meeting at Dover Air Force Base. As they were boarding a bus to leave, one woman shouted at Biden, "I hope you burn in hell! That was my brother!"

Jiennah McCollum, widow of Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum, told the Washington Post that she felt Biden’s words were shallow, and showed “total disregard to the loss of our Marine – our brother, son, husband and father.”

The last US flight out of Afghanistan departed from the capital city of Kabul on Monday, effectively marking the end of the 20-year US occupation of Afghanistan that culminated in the Taliban taking control of most of the country.
