Unfortunately we have learned that one of our hard-working colleagues at Press TV, Mahan Abedin, has died of COVID-19 at the age of 45 Friday night.

Mahan Abedin was an Iranian Journalist working for Press TV as an analyst and its website UK desk editor. He was an analyst of Middle Eastern politics. He has also authored a book titled “Iran Resurgent: The rise and rise of the Shia state”. The book mainly discusses Iran’s foreign policy.

Mahan Abedin was born in 1976. He gained his Master’s degree in Political science from the London School of Economics in 2000. As an analyst he used to appear on different international News Channels to analyze regional developments especially in Iran.

The Delta variant of the coronavirus has swept across the country, leaving over 500 people dead every single day in Iran. Iran's new President Ebrahim Raisi has vowed his government would import the much needed vaccines as soon as possible to both control the pandemic and help boost an economy affected by the pandemic.

Journalists have always been exposed to threats of wars and conflicts to report accurately. But the death of our colleague Mahan Abedin sounds an alarm that this time humanity is in an unequal battle with a killing virus which knows no rules or boundaries.
