The United States has recorded more than 1,000 Covid-19 deaths in a single day, returning to the number previously seen in April.

Some 1,017 coronavirus deaths have been reported in the US only on Tuesday, which means nearly 42 deaths an hour, Reuters reported.

According to the report, the infections are also on the rise in the country. The US has recorded an average of more than 100,000 new daily cases for the past 12 days, marking a six-month high.

The administration of US President Joe Biden managed to bring the number of Covid-19 fatalities blow 1,000 deaths per day since mid-March via widespread vaccination program.

However, the rapid spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus, which is more infectious than previous versions of the virus, has once again increased cases and hospitalizations in the United States.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Delta variant now accounts for more than 98.8 percent of cases in the country.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration is reportedly seeking to announce that Americans should receive a Covid-19 booster shot eight months after becoming fully vaccinated to counter the impacts of the Delta variant.
