Spanish La Liga: Barcelona 4-2 Real Sociedad

In their opening game of the new La Liga season, Barcelona have survived a late scare to claim a 4-2 win over Sociedad in the first post-Messi match at Camp Nou.

Barca proved they can still do it all without the legendary no. 10, when Gerard Pique headed in the first in the 19th minute.

Then it was Martin Braithwaite, who put the hosts two goals up on the stroke of half-time with a bullet header on Frenkie de Jong’s pin-point cross.

The Danish striker seemed to have signed off the match before the hour-mark when he added his second, and Barca’s third.

But there were some twists inside the final 10 minutes as Julen Lobete got one back for the visitors in the 82nd minute.

Just three minutes later, Mikel Oyarzabal scored a stunning free-kick from 25 yards out to give Sociedad a real chance of a comeback.

However, that never happened as the Catalans came up with a 4th in stoppage time through Sergi Roberto and matched Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in starting their campaign with a win.
