Citi Open: Harris knocks out Nadal, reaches quarters

Lloyd Harris has earned the biggest win of his career after, upsetting world No.3, Rafael Nadal 2 sets to 1 in the third round of the Citi Open.

Harris delivered a good performance and surprisingly beat the 20-time grand slam champion 6-4 in the opening set.

However, Nadal who had withdrawn from Tokyo Games due to injuries, managed to take the second set 6-1 to show that the pain did not impact his fighting spirit.

But, the motivated South African was unafraid and managed to level the third at 4-all and then took control of the set to beat the Spaniard 6-4 and wrap up the match after 2 hours and 11 minutes.

Harris now set up a quarterfinal encounter against Kei Nishikori of Japan who defeated Cameron Norrie 2 sets to 1.

Meanwhile, Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada was eliminated from the tournament after going down against Jenson Brooksby of the United States in straight sets.

The 20-year American dominated the opening set as he took it 6-3.

Brooksby continued with his flawless performance in the next set to take it 6-4 and secure his spot in the quarterfinals of the event where he will play John Millman of Australia who beat home favorite Reilly Opelka.
