Tokyo Olympics: Novak Djokovic suffers loss to Alexander Zverev

Novak Djokovic's bid for the Golden Slam is over after his dream of lifting the Olympic title were crushed by a 2 sets to 1 loss to an inspired Alexander Zverev.

The Serbinator seemed to be well in command of the semi-final tie, when he raced to a 6-1 win in the opener.

But Zverev recovered from a break in the second to clinch a remarkable 6-3 before outclassing the World no.1 with a 6-1 win to wrap up the match after 2 hours and 3 minutes.

He will now meet Russian Karen Khachanov in Sunday’s gold medal match. It was a bitter defeat for Djokovic, but he could yet finish 2021 with a quartet of majors, if he succeeds at the US Open.
