Fireworks mark start of Olympics opening ceremony

Japan has officially inaugurated the 2020 Olympics after a one-year delay due to the coronavirus pandemic. Basketball star Samad Nikkhah Bahrami and 2019 World Cup bronze medalist shooter Hanieh Rostami led out the Iranian delegation at the opening Ceremony.

The Olympic rings were unveiled with wonderful fireworks in Tokyo during the opening ceremony for the games, yet without the usual mass choreography and glamor associated with past celebrations. Moreover, due to the COVID-19 restrictions, some 11,000 athletes paraded into an almost empty Olympic Stadium, in front of around 1,000 officials, rather than 68,000 fans. The Athletes will be competing for a total of 339 medals in the Games which will run until the 8th of August. Iran delegation is made up of 66 athletes in 16 sports.
