England’s big relaxation of COVID-restrictions , among them social distancing and face masks, is finally here. The government has called the changes an "important step" but called on the public to be cautious.
But many scientists disagree with the timing of this step into the unknown. More than 1200 international experts have called it an “unethical experiment” and a threat to the world.
The unlocking of England is happening even as the country’s Prime Minister and Chancellor become the latest government officials to go into self-isolation over the weekend.
Following contact with new Health Secretary Sajid Javid who tested positive for the virus before them. The two were originally reported as exempt from quarantining as they were joining a daily contact testing pilot but did a quick U-turn shortly after.
In another U-turn, AstraZeneca the pharma-company developing its COVID-19 vaccine with the University of Oxford, is allegedly walking back on its original pledge that it wouldn’t try to profit off its shot until after the pandemic ends.
