The top US general warned former Republican President Donald Trump against a possible strike against Iran in the final months of his presidency, telling him such a military action could lead to a war, according to a book.

“If you do this, you’re gonna have a f---ing war,” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of the United States Army Gen. Mark Milley warned Trump of a possible strike against Iran according to the book's author Susan Glasser, The New Yorker reported on Friday.

The book, penned with Glasser’s husband Peter Baker of The New York Times, is set to be released next year.

The book details Milley’s paranoia regarding Trump’s eagerness to strike against Iran due to the country’s resistance to US imperial designs on the Middle East region.

Milley was afraid Trump would do anything to stay in the White House from launching a military coup inside the United States to starting a war with Iran, according to the book.

The top US general would reportedly tell staff “both engines are out, the landing gear are stuck, we’re in an emergency situation. Our job is to land this plane safely and to do a peaceful transfer of power the 20th of January.”

In a January 3 meeting, Milley, then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and national security adviser Robert O’Brien warned Trump of the consequences of attacking Iran. Trump paid attention to their warnings, according to the book.

According to another book, “I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J. Trump’s Catastrophic Final Year,” Milley was also concerned Trump would attempt to launch a military coup to stay in power.

Trump, however, on Thursday called the claims “ridiculous!”

"So ridiculous! Sorry to inform you, but an Election is my form of 'coup,' and if I was going to do a coup, one of the last people I would want to do it with is General Mark Milley," Trump said.
