Freezing Palestinian funds

The Palestinian commission for detainees' affairs has slammed Israel for freezing nearly 200 million dollars in Palestinian tax money. Head of the commission, Qadri Abu Bakr, said the Israeli move is a crime and piracy against Palestinians’ funds. The regime claimed Sunday that the funds it froze equal the amount of money the Palestinian Authority paid to families of Palestinians, allegedly involved in anti-Israeli attacks. Israel frequently withholds tax money to pressure the cash-strapped authority. The Israeli move means Palestinian employees in the occupied West Bank are almost never paid their wages fully at the end of each month.

China-US tensions

China’s military says it drove away a US warship after it entered Chinese waters. The military said the incident took place near the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea. It also called on the US to immediately stop what it called provocative actions. The incident comes amid simmering tension between the two sides in the area. Earlier, the US secretary of state warned China against any attack on the Philippine armed forces, saying it would trigger a 1951 mutual defense treaty with the Philippines. Antony Blinken issued the warning on the fifth anniversary of a Hague tribunal ruling against China’s territorial claims in the area. On Friday, Beijing reiterated that it does not accept the ruling.

Racism in UK

England's Football Association condemns racial abuse against three black players of the England soccer team after their defeat in the Euro 2020 final. The association says it is appalled by the online racism aimed at Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, and Jadon Sancho. England’s soccer team also released a statement condemning the abuse. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also slammed the racist abuse. Johnson said the team deserves to be lauded as heroes. Meanwhile, police are investigating the "offensive and racist posts". The three England football players were targeted after they missed in the penalty shoot-out that decided the match against Italy.
