Argentina have upset Brazil 1-nil in the Copa America final to end a 28-year trophy drought.

Argentina needed 22 minutes to find the opener as Rodrigo De Paul provided a sublime through-ball for Angel Di María and the 33-year-old striker capitalized on some poor defending to control the ball and lob it past Ederson.

Brazil got their chances for an equalizer after the break only to be denied by Emiliano Martinez.

Lionel Messi could have doubled Argentina’s lead with 2 minutes left if he hadn’t slipped with only Ederson left to beat.

The win at Maracana Stadium saw Messi lift his first trophy with Argentina to earn their 15th Copa America title and equal Uruguay’s total as the all-time leading winners.
