US Iraq base attacked

A US military base has come under attack at Erbil airport in Iraq’s northern Kurdistan region, sounding sirens at the nearby US consulate in the city. Local security sources said bomb-laden drones were used in the attack, which prompted a suspension of flights at the airport. In a statement, the Pentagon said it was aware of reports about a drone attack, but initial information did not indicate structural damage or any injuries. This comes a day after rockets hit US-run Ain al-Asad airbase in Anbar province. Anti-US sentiments have been on the rise since the United States assassinated top Iranian General, Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis near Baghdad Airport in January 2020. The move promoted Iraqi lawmakers to vote for the expulsion of US forces from the country.

UK Yemen war complicity

A new report suggests that British forces are providing training and support to Saudi-backed forces and mercenaries in Yemen. According to news outlet Declassified UK, some 30 British soldiers have been stationed at al-Ghaydah airport in the Eastern Yemeni province of Mahrah. A local journalist was cited by the outlet as saying that the British troops there are QUOTE a fully-fledged force. The report challenges London’s claims that it’s not a party to the war on Yemen. The UK has long been criticized for its arms sales to the Saudi-led coalition that waged the deadly Yemen war.
