Wimbledon: Federer cruises past Richard Gasquet

Eight-time Wimbledon champion, Roger Federer has eclipsed Richard Gasquet in straight sets to become the oldest player in 46 years to reach the third round of the championships.

The 39-year-old-Swiss was not at his best in the first set; he had to save three break points in his first service game and was pushed into tiebreak.

But, he suddenly turned on the style to break Gasquet three times and win the tiebreak 7-1.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion then sprinted into a 5-love advantage and later hit a sixth ace to clinch the second set 6-1.

The Swiss Maestro continued to move through the gears in the third. He served it out 6-4 to book a clash against in-form British 29th seed Cameron Norrie, who thrashed Australian Alex Bolt.

Meanwhile, Daniil Medvedev made light work of Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz in three sets, en route to the third round. The

World number 2 tamed some early fights from the youngster in the opening set before grabbing it 6-4.

Then he handed out a brutal lesson to his opponent in the second and third sets, crushing him 6-1 and 6-2 to get the job done.

He will next meet either Marin Cilic of Croatia or Benjamin Bonzi of France.
