Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has stressed the necessity for an inclusive government in Afghanistan, saying the Taliban represents only part of Afghanistan, not the whole present and future status of the country.

Speaking at his weekly press conference, Saeed Khatibzadeh stressed the need for the formation of an inclusive government through peaceful and sustainable solutions in Afghanistan that would involve all Afghan groups.

The spokesman also noted that Iran is closely and seriously monitoring the situation in Afghanistan at the high security and political levels and is negotiating with all Afghan groups.

In recent weeks Afghanistan has been once again scene of bombings and clashes between the Taliban and the government forces.

The US military led a massive invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 in what it proclaimed was a war on terror and meant to eradicate the Taliban. But twenty years on, however, terrorism continues to be the mainstay in the country.

Iranian officials maintain that the intra-Afghan negotiations should include all Afghan groups and be held in accordance with the Constitution of Afghanistan.
