Iran elections 2021, elections process in Iran in a nutshell

Iran has had a variety of elections almost every year since the Islamic Republic’s formation in 1979.

Iran’s elections are governed by both the constitution and set electoral laws, although the management of these elections is a decentralized collective effort by local communities.

According to the Presidential Election Law, Iran has two main entities in charge of the electoral process, the Ministry of Interior, and the Constitutional Council.

The Ministry of Interior is responsible for direct management of elections with the help of local communities, while the Constitutional Council is mandated with an extensive supervisory duty which gives it the power to nullify or suspend the election throughout all of Iran or just in a specific region or polling station. That’s if the election or components of the election are deemed to have been fraudulent.
