More anti-Russia posturing at EU-US summit

US President Joe Biden concludes an official visit to Brussels which was in no short supply of negative posturing towards Russia and China. Leaders at a EU-US summit discussed a range of subjects including the future of the Iran nuclear deal.

The European Union and the United States are trying to put the Donald Trump era behind them. That point was underpinned by Trump's successor as he arrived for an EU-US summit in Brussels.

They discussed COVID-19, trade, climate change and much more besides.

In fact, critics say the EU sat on its hands as the Trump administration tried to destroy the Iran nuclear deal. Efforts are now ongoing to save the accord. At the summit, Biden described the EU as America's natural partner.

There was more negativity directed towards China at this event, and of course Russia too.

Experts remind the EU that many of its 27 nations and neighboring allies are dependent on Russia's energy. They suggest it's better not to provoke Moscow too much.

Despite all the anti-Putin posturing, there are a number of leaders in the EU who would like to see better relations with Russia, if only for economic reasons.

So, as Biden's visit to Belgium has now concluded, all eyes will be on Geneva, Switzerland to see what might emerge from the US-Russia summit on Wednesday.
