Heavy vehicles manufacturing industry

Iran’s auto industry can be broken down into three production segments: passenger cars, heavy duty vehicles like trucks, and public transportation such as buses.

There are also closely-related industries such as the auto-parts manufacturers. As part of the economic outlook plan delineated by the government, production of automobiles is set to increase to three million units in the next four years.

This includes one million vehicles allocated for exports. The country produces a certain amount of heavy vehicles which is supplies based on demands. Several companies are active in this sector.

Some years ago, the government announced a scheme to replace old and dilapidated public transportation vehicles such as buses and taxis.

Currently there are 1.9 million heavy and light vehicles operating in the country. Around 30% of this total consists of old and outdated vehicles which produce large amounts of air pollution.

So, manufacturers of buses and other commercial vehicles are stepping up their productions to meet renewed local demands.
