Iranian presidential debate

Iranian presidential candidates have held their first televised debate ahead of the June 18 election. This comes as the election fever is running high with Iranians trying to weigh up who can be the most qualified person to run the country for the next four years. Now let’s go over to our election studio to find out the latest on Iran’s upcoming vote.

Israeli arrest

As many as one thousand Pro-Palestine protesters have created a human wall to block an Israeli cargo ship from unloading at the Port of Oakland in the US. The Israeli ship that docked on Friday morning, remained fully loaded, with cranes idle, as longshore workers refused to cross the protesters' picket lines. The demonstrators carried signs and waved Palestinian flags outside the port, blocking truck traffic from four marine terminals. The move was part of a weeklong international Block-The-Boat campaign, in which activists are mobilizing to prevent Israeli ships from docking at ports around the world. The campaign is in response to Israel's recent assault on Gaza, which killed at least 248 people including at least 67 children.

Burkina Faso massacre

UN secretary general, Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the massacre of civilians in Burkina Faso's volatile north. Guterres spokesman said the United Nations underscores the urgent need for the international community to redouble support for the fight against violent extremism. Stephane Dujarric also said that UN fully supports the authorities in their efforts to overcome the threats to peace stability and unity in the country. This comes after militants killed at least 138 civilians in two Burkinabe villages in the deadliest attacks since 2015. No group has claimed responsibility for the carnage. But al-Qaeda-linked groups are known to be operating in the region. Burkina Faso along with neighboring Mali and Niger has come under frequent terrorist attacks in the past year.
