US President Joe Biden has carried on with a range of inhumane anti-Cuba policies imposed by his hawkish predecessor, Donald Trump.

The Hill reported on Monday that after five months in office, Biden has made no move to lift sanctions or open dialogue with Cuba.

During his term as president, Trump imposed 243 measures to exert pressure on the Latin American country to give in to US demands.

The inhumane economic, commercial and financial embargo slapped on Cuba by the US government has made the island nation suffer much hardship.

Despite the continued hardships being suffered by the Cubans, White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters in March that “a Cuba policy shift is not currently among President Biden’s top priorities.”

However, the new US administration recently stated that Havana had not fulfilled US demands in its fight against terrorism, and as such Cuba remains on the US list of the so-called state sponsors of terrorism to which it was added by Trump during his final days in office in January 2020.

The State Department this past week listed Cuba as among those “not cooperating fully with United States anti-terrorism efforts,”

The Cuban government responded to the US’ continued hostile approach towards the Latin American country, saying the policies of President Joe Biden's administration are no different from those of Trump, despite earlier pledges of a policy shift by the Biden team promising to review Trump’s state sponsor of terror listing.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez dismissed the US sanctions slapped on the Cuban nation as politically-motivated, describing the false accusations against Havana as mere “slander”.

He dismissed Washington's latest "slander" and said it was “surprising and irritating as are the application of Trump's policy and his 243 sanctions.”

Rodriguez pointed out that the accusations against Havana were entirely without basis and were being used for political ends in an attempt to justify attacks against Cuba, including the inhumane economic, commercial and financial embargo our people are suffering under.

Another top Cuban official noted in a post on social media that despite the promises of change, Biden pursued the same foreign policy as Trump in regard to Havana.

“The US changed presidents, but it’s more of the same,” Alejandro Gil Fernandez, Cuba’s deputy prime minister and top economic policy minister, wrote on Twitter.
