Ghazizadeh-Hashemi to pursue ‘revolution in structures, management’ if elected president

Presidential candidate Seyyed-Amir Hossein Ghazizadeh-Hashemi says it is time for a “revolution” in management methods and mechanisms of running the country, and that such deep changes need the administration to become one with the people.

In a televised campaign show titled ‘The president (to camera)’ on Friday evening, the Principlist lawmaker said the Iranians had already experienced a range of administrations with different models of running the country, none of which worked successfully to settle the country’s essential problems.

“Regardless of the fact that we have to offer a comprehensive, right agenda to the people for necessary affairs, the onus is on us to put forward a new theory in order to build a new Iran,” he said. “It is time for deeper changes. A revolution is needed in the mechanisms…; a practical and functional revolution and a change in the structures.”

“Next comes a revolution in management, which means an administration that fully merges with the people,” the candidate added.

In order to achieve that status, Ghazizadeh-Hashemi added, the administration is required to have a number of characteristics, including being transparent, holding constant dialog with the people over social decisions, creating a competitive climate, steering clear of monopoly and bribery, and having justice.

He criticized the administration of President Hassan Rouhani for what he described as its failure to establish social justice and said, “Over the past eight years, we have witnessed the worst gap ever in classes of the society in terms of social justice and economy.”

Seyyed Amir-Hossein Ghazizadeh-Hashemi is a Principlist lawmaker, who currently serves as the legislature’s first vice speaker.

“Today is a day for major surgeries,” said the ENT specialist and surgeon, adding that any administration that will come to office should have “an urgent plan” to address such issues as inflation, unemployment, and high housing prices, besides its mid- and long-term plans.

The legislator said the 1979 Islamic Revolution was consolidated in the first 40 years, but many of the Revolution’s ideals have yet to fully materialize, such as free speech, prosperity, political independence, and the people’s rule.

He said the Second Step of the Revolution statement that Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei issued to the new generation in Iran in 2019 is in fact meant to guide the nation on the path to realizing its ideals.

Ghazizadeh-Hashemi is among seven candidates preparing to contest the June 18 presidential election in Iran.
