Israel committing gravest intl. crimes amid UNSC’s deadly silence: Iran envoy

Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations says the Israeli regime is busy committing the full range of gravest international crimes amid United States-enabled silence on the part of the UN Security Council (UNSC).

Majid Takht Ravanchi made the remarks on Sunday, speaking at an emergency UNSC meeting held to address the heart-wrenching bloodletting and destruction that has been brought about across the Palestinian territories as a result of the regime’s brutality.

Tel Aviv, he said, was simultaneously engaged in genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of aggression against the Palestinians owing to the Security Council’s mum on the savagery.

The envoy said the Council’s inaction had increasingly emboldened the regime in the atrocities.

‘Systematic US support’

Takht Ravanchi cited the US’s patronage for the brutal regime as a key factor behind its sustained avoidance of accountability for the atrocities on the international arena.

The US has been “systematically” shielding the regime against international condemnation, whether under the Democrats or the Republicans, he said, citing Washington’s blocking of 44 anti-Israeli draft resolutions during the UNSC’s history.

The current American administration was similarly trying to protect the regime, and had even prevented the Council from issuing a simple press release urging cessation of its bombardment of the Gaza Strip, he said.

Acting so, Washington has shown that it would “decisively” back the regime no matter the enormity of its crimes, the Iranian official added.

Since Monday, as many as 192 Palestinians, including 58 children and 34 women, have died during a significant escalation in the Israeli military’s attacks against Gaza.

Scores of others have also died in the nearby Israeli-occupied Palestinian territory of the West Bank, during the regime’s attacks on Palestinian worshippers and protesters.

Takht Ravanchi said the only reason the Israeli regime was employing such a brutal crackdown against the Palestinians was because they had “raised their voice” against Tel Aviv’s attempts at forcibly removing them from their ancestral lands.

The Islamic Republic strongly condemns all the regime’s crimes against the Palestinians, while backing the Palestinian nation’s rightful cause of liberation from Israeli occupation and aggression, the representative said.

Iran lends especial support to the Palestinians’ inherent right to self-determination and creation of an independent state throughout the entire Palestinian territories with the holy city of al-Quds as its capital, he noted.

The issue of Palestine would not be resolved without adherence to the principles of justice and the international law, Takht Ravanchi concluded, and also warned that the UNSC’s inaction concerning the Israeli regime’s brutality had done disservice to the international body’s reputation and credibility.

Iran’s top legislator urges intl. pro-Palestinian parliamentary action

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammed Baqer Qalibaf echoed some of Takht Ravanchi’s remarks concerning the situation, in a conversation with his Syrian counterpart Hammouda Youssef Sabbagh.

The former hailed the Palestinian people’s resistance in the face of the Israeli barbarity. He noted that Muslim countries had to speak out in the face of the atrocities, and lend both political and humanitarian support to the Palestinian nation as they confront the “bloodthirsty and infanticidal” regime.

Qalibaf called the US and some other countries’ silence towards the situation “a cause for consternation and source of chagrin.”

The Iranian top legislator, meanwhile, urged “serious” action on the part of the world’s parliaments towards enabling cessation of the Israeli aggression.

The Syrian official, for his part, noted how the regime had been engaged in criminal activities since 1948, when it claimed existence.

He said just like the Islamic Republic, Syria considers the issue of Palestine to be its “main and essential” concern.
