US supports Israeli reign of terror: Scholar

The United States is supporting to the Israeli reign of terror unleashed on Palestinian women and children, says Dennis Etler, an American political analyst who has a decades-long interest in international affairs.

In an interview with Press TV on Friday, Etler, a former professor of Anthropology at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California, said, “The United States in a display of craven obsequiousness has tacitly endorsed Israel’s heinous attacks on the Palestinian people in Gaza and Jerusalem (al-Quds). With utter contempt, disdain and disregard for the Palestinian people, Zionists have openly declared that they have no rights whatsoever and can be trodden underfoot without compunction. By supporting the reign of terror unleashed on the huddled masses of Palestinian women and children in the Gaza strip the US has shown its true colors once again. Any utterances it makes regarding ‘human rights’ are hollow and meaningless and merely a smokescreen for its own crimes against humanity.”

Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has condemned US President Joe Biden for siding with Israel’s “oppressive occupation” of Palestine and carrying out recent atrocities against Palestinians. The Representative from Minnesota made the remarks in a twitter post after Biden called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday where he said Israel has a right to defend itself.

According to the White House, Biden “conveyed his unwavering support for Israel’s security and for Israel’s legitimate right to defend itself and its people, while protecting civilians.”

“He also conveyed the United States’ encouragement of a pathway toward restoring a sustainable calm. He shared his conviction that Jerusalem (al-Quds), a city of such importance to people of faith from around the world, must be a place of peace. He updated the Prime Minister on the United States’ diplomatic engagement with regional countries, including Egypt, Jordan, and Qatar, as well as with Palestinian officials,” the White House statement read.

Commenting on Biden’s statement, Omar said, “No mention of Sheikh Jarra. No mention of the al-Aqsa raid. No mention of the 13 innocent children killed in airstrikes. No mention of the ongoing occupation of millions in an open air prison. You aren’t prioritizing human rights. You’re siding with an oppressive occupation.”

Biden’s words betrayed by his support of Israel’s actions

Professor Etler said, “Biden’s high-sounding words are betrayed by his support of Israel’s actions. The Zionists have declared that Palestinians have no place in Jerusalem al-Quds and must be expropriated and driven out to make room for the complete Jewish occupation of Muslim East Jerusalem al-Quds. Israel's brazen attacks against Arab families precipitated the current crisis and are the result of long-standing US policy that has turned a blind eye to the abuses of the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people.”

“The bombardment of Gaza brings to mind the Nazi assault against the Warsaw Ghetto in which thousands of Jews perished during WW2. The criminal acts of the Zionists against the Palestinians shows them to be the true inheritors of the Third Reich and the US by endorsing the Zionist's aggression is complicit in their crimes. The genocidal mania of both Israel and the United States will go down as a dark chapter in the annals of history,” he concluded.

Israel continued its airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip, drawing a barrage of rockets from resistance groups in Gaza.

The Palestinian Islamic Resistance movement Hamas has said it has targeted the Israeli regime’s Iron Dome stations and an Israeli air base which is used by Israeli warplanes to bombard civilian targets in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian health ministry said the death toll from Israel’s raids has risen to 86, including 17 children and seven women. According to Palestinian officials, some 95 percent of the victims are civilians.

The Israeli-blockaded Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories have been simmering with rage in the past weeks over Israel’s scheme to expel dozens of Palestinians from their homes in the volatile Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of the Old City in occupied East Jerusalem al-Quds as part of a long-running scheme to Judaize Palestinian lands.

The anger against the Tel Aviv regime further intensified earlier this month with Israeli attacks on Palestinian worshipers in the al-Aqsa Mosque compound during the fasting days of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.

The Israeli military has been under fire globally over its crimes against Palestinians, especially those residing in Gaza, which has already been under a crippling Israeli siege.
