Biden not president for all Americans, McConnell suggests
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has criticized US President Joe Biden over breaking his campaign promise to bring the divided US nation together.
“President Biden pledged he would be ‘A president for all Americans’ with plans to repair, restore and heal,” McConnell said on the Senate floor on Wednesday.
“But the first hundred days have left much to be desired,” he added. “Over a few short months, the Biden administration seems to have given up on selling actual unity in favor of catnip for their liberal base, covered with a hefty coat of false advertising.”
The senior Republican figure also claimed that the Democrats are trying to pass their expensive plans as many as possible before losing control of the House of Representatives.
“Behind President Biden’s familiar face, it’s like the most radical Washington Democrats have been handed the keys, and they’re trying to speed as far left as they can possibly go before American voters ask for their car back,” he said.
The comments by McConnell came exactly on the day that Biden is supposed to deliver his first annual address to a joint session of Congress amidst high security alert at the US Capitol with memories of January riot still fresh.
The attendants inside the Capitol will include selected number of Congressmen, Supreme Court judges, top government officials and other high-profile guests with observance of Covid19 norms, reports said.
But security will be beefed up for the event, which has been officially designated a "National Special Security Event," with the heavy deployment of secret service.
The white-domed building had on January 6 this year come under attack from the supporters of former US President Donald Trump over disputed election result.
At least five people including a US Capitol police officer had died in ensuing clashes with dozens of policemen and Trump supporters getting injured.
