Iran reports 80% surge in non-crude exports in month to April 20

Iran saw its non-crude exports increase by 80% in the calendar month to April 20.

Iran’s customs office IRICA says exports of non-crude goods and products increased significantly in the month to April 20 as the country moves to offset losses suffered in trade last year because of the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

IRICA chairman Mehdi Mir Ashrafi said on Sunday that exports from Iran in the first month of the current calendar year had amounted to $2.968 billion in value terms, a surge of 80 percent compared to the similar month in 2020.

Mir Ashrafi said a total of 8.302 million metric tons of shipments had been exported from Iran over the period, up 56 percent year on year.

He said Iran’s balance of trade was positive by $174 million over the month to late March as imports into the country had totaled $2.794 billion, up 47% against the same period in 2020.

IRICA data showed that rising gasoline exports from Iran had helped boost the total non-crude exports figures for the month to late March.

Exports to China rose by 86% year on year to $974 million, making the country the top destination for Iranian exports over the period, said Mir Ashrafi. The value of shipments sent to Iraq and the United Arab Emirates stood at $428 million and $417 million respectively, he said, adding that Turkey and Afghanistan together took delivery of $352 million worth of Iranian goods and products over the monthly period.

The UAE continued to top the list of major exporters to Iran with $788 million worth of cargoes registered at IRICA. It was followed by China at $656 million and Turkey at $247 million while India and Russia were collectively responsible for $265 million worth of cargoes sent to Iran.

Main goods imported into Iran over the month to late March included mobile phones, cooking oil, wheat, rice and seed oil cake, showed IRICA  figures.
