Iran sympathizes with India as it grapples with dangerous COVID variant
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expresses Iran’s solidarity with India as the subcontinent wrestles with an especially dangerous mutant version of the already heavily deadly COVID-19 virus.
“Iran stands in solidarity with India as she braves one of worst episodes of disastrous pandemic, which has become humanity's Common Pain,” Zarif tweeted on Saturday.

India has been hit by a new wave of infections, partially blamed on the "double mutant" variant that is known as B1617.
Also on Saturday, the country reported a record daily number of cases and deaths.
The situation is pressing the country to the limit, with a shortage of oxygen at the hospitals looming seriously large for the government.
India has so far lost more than 190,000 to COVID-19, a fast spreading respiratory infection, which started its deadly march throughout the world from central China in late 2019.
Earlier, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani sounded a grim warning about the potential of Iran’s starting to feel the heat from the Indian virus.
“Today, we are facing another threat and that is the Indian virus which is worse than the English one, is worse than the Brazilian and South African ones ... if this arrives in the country we will have a big problem,” he told members of a national taskforce formed to fight the coronavirus
