"No temporary agreement"

Iran’s deputy foreign minister has dismissed Western media reports that Tehran and the remaining signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal are discussing a temporary agreement. Abbas Araqchi said there have been no talks on a temporary or step-by-step agreement in ongoing nuclear negotiations in Vienna. He said Tehran is only discussing the full removal of the sanctions. Araqchi said that following the principles outlined by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Tehran will not allow talks to become attritional. Iran and the remaining parties to the nuclear deal have been holding talks in Vienna to salvage the nuclear accord. Tehran says it will only reverse its commitment cuts after it has verified the removal of all US sanctions. The US re-imposed a raft of sanctions on Iran after withdrawing from the nuclear deal in 2018.

Call for new world order

The Chinese president has called for a rejection of hegemonic power structures in global governance. President Xi Jinping said the world order cannot be led by unilateralism from some countries. He said arrogant treatment and interference in other countries' domestic affairs will not win the hearts of the people. The Chinese president made the remarks at the annual Boao Forum for Asia. China has long called for reforms of the global governance system. It has repeatedly clashed over the issue with the West, especially the US. Beijing is critical of Washington over what it sees as hegemony in global trade and geopolitics, among other issues.

Anti-France sentiment in Pakistan

Pakistan’s government seeks a vote in parliament on expelling the French ambassador after protests over the publication of blasphemous cartoons of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The interior minister said, based on the resolution, the TLP party that organized the protests will call them off. The protests erupted into violence last week after the TLP leader was arrested over his demand to expel the French ambassador. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up amid a nationwide strike in solidarity with the TLP. Protesters have vowed to continue their rallies unless the French diplomat is expelled. France has drawn criticism from across the Muslim world over its Islamophobic stance and defending the insulting cartoons of Prophet Muhammad.
