Yemenis are marking the holy month of Ramadan amid ongoing conflict, siege and rising prices. The seventh holy month of Ramadan since the start of the war on Yemen has arrived and Yemenis’ struggle continues.
The rising cost of living makes shopping for essentials a difficult task as most Yemenis depend on daily wages.
Tradesmen say they didn’t earn much this year due to severe fuel crisis that led to the rising prices of foodstuffs.
Meanwhile, deteriorating economic condition has forced many companies to discharge thousands of their employees.
Yemen is on the brink of famine and facing the world's worst humanitarian crisis according to the United Nations since [the] Saudi-led coalition backed by Washington launched a devastating war on the war-ravaged nation at the beginning of 2015.
Despite the tragic humanitarian situation in their country, Yemenis welcome Ramadan with hopes of an end to war. They say their army's escalation of retaliatory attacks is pushing Riyadh further into a political solution.
